The Burning Man Exhibit is new to Renwick Gallery at Washington DC. The Burning Man Festival is about escaping the modern world, connecting with a community and the rest of humanity, and learning about yourself. The festival takes place in Nevada every summer after starting in San Francisco. People learn about how important we can be for each other, and how the diversity of society enables us to accomplish more. The festival stresses acceptance of people of all walks of life. This is important to us as both students and BSE scholars because creativity truly flows in environments like these. While Burning Man is more about the artistic side of creativity, entrepreneurs and other innovators can use this movement to inspire them to tap into themselves and the challenges they face. Encouraging an accepting community can also help people to both build ideas off of each other or gain new insights from ideologies that they usually are not as open to listening to. Lessons can be learned from listening to people of an unfamiliar background, and especially in innovation, this allows for people to sometimes receive a constructive comment that they normally would not receive if they only built their ideas on the same common people.

Shrumen Lumen:
These sculptures are truly amazing because not only are they beautiful in their lighting of the room they are in, but these sculptures are interactive. If viewers stand underneath the sculpture, the sculpture begins contracting and opening back up. Meanwhile, the lighting on the sculpture changes as it moves. One of the takeaways we had from this was that it inspires us to look at things differently, which is one of the main points of Burning Man. This connects to entrepreneurship and innovation because looking at a problem from a different point of view often allows innovators to become successful in creating a solution. Being open-minded is a trait of people who are able to come up with creative solutions, and the true value of interacting with new ideas is vital for those that want to change the world.

This exhibit is about mourning and loss. It inspires us to reflect on a time where we went through a loss in our lives, whether it be a loved one, or any point in your life that caused grieving and changed you to become who you are today. The collection of stories told by the blocks of wood that make up the walls symbolizes important memories of our lives and their lasting impacts. Grieving is important because not only does it help us to remember how important that person or event was to your life, but it helps us to reevaluate our lives and understand how you can grow from your loss. This relates to entrepreneurship and innovation because failure is part of growth, especially in business. Companies would not be where they are today if they did not reflect on the mistakes and losses that other companies and themselves have made. Adaptation plays a huge part in keeping a business innovative, and although this exhibit is more about personal reflection, groups benefit off of reflecting just as much.

This work of art is a series of figures with varying patterns on them. Light shines through the figures to produce the patterns as a shadow on the walls of the room. The view would not be nearly as spectacular if there was no light produced through the figure, or if the figure was not inside. This installation is unique because it focuses on the negative space around the sculpture rather than just the sculpture itself, like most other works do. It inspires viewers to stretch the boundaries, and challenge the conventional ways of creating art, or business models. Innovators can learn off of this because the diversity of the pattern is able to produce a beautiful shadow. It is important for companies to work together when innovating, and having unique workers enables each and every one of them to think differently. This is why there is often stories of "low level employees" coming up with groundbreaking ideas for their company. If everyone is invested in a company, they are much more likely to make an impact on the world and produce something truly amazing!
