What makes Tesla so remarkable?
Tesla is arguably the most innovative car company on the market right now. They have reinvisioned what cars are capable of and are holding the car industry to a higher standard overall. Tesla has been able to create the first affordable electric car while also competing with some of the fastest supercars in the world. They also are cramming as much technology and features in their cars as physically possible. Calling Tesla just a car is like saying your iPhone is just a phone--and thats what Tesla is doing so well. They are on their way to being the iPhone of automobiles and only the boundaries of technology is going to stop them.

Everyone is attracted to the "cool" new thing. Telsa took advantage of the rapid expansion of technology (specifically nickel-cobalt-aluminum-lithium chemistry) and our society's desire to constantly one up eachother to make something revolutionary. It's the little things about Tesla that cause customers to fall in love. Most companies, after they discovered the new battery technology that makes the car better than any electric car on the market, would stop there and watch the money pile up. However, Tesla wasn't satisfied and made their customers able to control everything about the car directly from their phone. Something as little as allowing your customer to warm the car up on a cold winter morning before leaving their house goes a long way and makes customers fall in love with the Tesla brand. People want to feel like they matter, and Tesla going above and beyond to make their cars as safe and comfortable as possible is something not a lot of companies can say.
Three lessons that can be applied to any company or organization:
1. Showing the customer that you care about them.
Like we stated above, everything about the car was designed solely for the driver's experience. The idea "empathizing with the end user" has been said over and over again, however, in most cases it can be the difference between a sale or not. Tesla also considered the needs and values of any potential customer that could walk through those doors. Tesla took the battery and moved it to the bottom of the car so the crumple zone can be as safe as possible for the worried mother that wants a safe car for her kids. They made the car go from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds for the affluent businessman that wants a sexy car to drive to work everyday. They made the car completely electric for everyone whos looking for a car that wont destroy the environment (as everyone should). Everything that went into the production of this car makes the lives of their customers as easy and rewarding as possible.
2. Targeting new markets and constantly adapting.
Before Tesla, there was no such thing as a high-end, electric supercar. Tesla didn't try to break into the car industry, they literally made their own group of cars that didn't previously exist. By pioneering the way for high-end electric cars, anytime anyone thinks or hears about an electric car they think Tesla. When they entered the market they knew they had a fantastic product on their hands. However, even to this day they're taking customer feedback and constantly reworking how they design and create their cars. They always updating their software and taking advantage of new technology such as autopilot sensors and cameras to completely eliminate blind spots.
3. Making the purchasing process so easy its almost unfair.
One thing that Dan from Tesla said was that they try not to overwhelm the customer when they're looking at purchasing a Tesla car. Tesla has few designs and few colors which enables them to focus on every little detail and make them as good as possible. When someone want to choose a car they only have 3-5 options to choose from. This makes it extremely simple to make a sale on the spot since everything there is to see is presented in a clean, easy way. When someone is looking to buy say a Toyota Camry, they could get 20 different colorways, 10 interior design options, etc. No one could possibly pick out their ideal design when they're presented with that many options. Some of the most successful restaurants have only 3 appitizers, 5 entrees, and 3 desserts to choose from. The reason no one complains is because they mastered those meals and have eliminated the possibility of a consumer making a bad choice. As for most things in life, quality over quanity goes a long way.
